Frequently asked
What is a programmatic joint venture and how does it compare to a fund?
A programmatic venture is a single capital partner committed to a pipeline of deals under agreed parameters, deal by deal, without a blind pool. A fund is discretionary capital raised from multiple investors against a strategy. Many sponsors use a programmatic venture as the step between one-off joint ventures and a first fund.
When is a sponsor ready to raise a first fund?
Usually when there is a demonstrated track record of comparable deals, a repeatable strategy, a team that can execute without the principals on every detail, and enough pipeline to deploy the capital within the investment period. Investors underwrite the people and the process as much as the strategy.
What does GP capital mean?
Capital raised at the general-partner or sponsor level rather than into a specific project: it funds the sponsor's co-investment obligations, working capital and growth, often in exchange for a share of the sponsor's economics.
